Director and Staff Code of Ethics<\/b><\/h2>

As a YATA director, instructor, or staff member, I commit to:<\/p>

Putting Students First<\/b><\/h3>
  • Prioritize the physical, emotional, and educational well-being of students.<\/li>
  • Foster an environment where every participant feels safe, valued, and respected.<\/li>
  • Remember that our influence extends beyond the classroom and stage.<\/li><\/ul>

    Leading with Professionalism<\/b><\/h3>
    • Model the behavior, work ethic, and character we expect from students.<\/li>
    • Communicate clearly, honestly, and respectfully.<\/li>
    • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries at all times.<\/li><\/ul>

      Treating Students Equitably<\/b><\/h3>
      • Provide opportunities for growth to students of all experience levels.<\/li>
      • Evaluate students fairly and consistently.<\/li>
      • Recognize and encourage effort, improvement, and dedication.<\/li><\/ul>

        Supporting the Team<\/b><\/h3>
        • Collaborate with fellow directors and staff in a spirit of unity.<\/li>
        • Avoid undermining colleagues publicly or privately.<\/li>
        • Resolve disagreements professionally and constructively.<\/li><\/ul>

          Stewarding the Organization<\/b><\/h3>
          • Protect YATA\u2019s reputation, resources, facilities, and mission.<\/li>
          • Make decisions that serve the long-term health of the organization.\u00a0<\/li>
          • Remember that we are caretakers of something larger than ourselves.<\/li><\/ul>

            Building Future Leaders<\/b><\/h3>
            • Teach students not only performance skills but also responsibility, empathy, teamwork, and service.<\/li>
            • Use theatre as a vehicle for character development.<\/li>
            • Create opportunities for students to learn leadership through action.<\/li><\/ul>

              Casting with Integrity<\/b><\/h3>
              • Make casting decisions with fairness, objectivity, and professional judgment.<\/li>
              • Evaluate students based on the artistic needs of the production, the educational goals of the program, and their readiness for the responsibilities of a role.<\/li>
              • Avoid favoritism, personal bias, conflicts of interest, or the appearance of preferential treatment.<\/li>
              • Balance what is best for the production with opportunities for meaningful student growth and development.<\/li>
              • Recognize that casting is both an artistic and educational responsibility, requiring thoughtful consideration of each student\u2019s strengths, potential, and journey.<\/li>
              • Provide equitable opportunities for students to learn, grow, and be challenged throughout their time at YATA.<\/li>
              • Communicate casting decisions professionally and respectfully, recognizing the emotional investment students place in the process.<\/li>
              • Encourage students to find value, purpose, and pride in every role, understanding that meaningful contributions come in many forms.<\/li>
